It’s been far too long since our last newsletter! Summer was very busy with many visitors to Africa, plus I was lucky enough to go travelling myself!

Despite the drought in Cape Town, it is one of the most beautiful cities in the world to visit!

Capetonians are coping well and have come up with many innovative ideas on how to save water.  Independent water sources have been set up at many of the hotels and guest houses so as to provide water for visitors. The rains usually come in from June (fingers crossed) and in the meantime everything is being done to ensure that your visit will be as great as ever!

Tourism is a huge part of this magnificent city, and we all look forward to welcoming all visitors with open arms.

Isn’t it time to start planning your next holiday in Africa?

YES, it is time to plan your next holiday!

We specialise in tailor-made itineraries –

How it works:

We love to tailor itineraries to suit our travellers. We believe in giving detailed information about the options available, so that you can make informed decisions. We then arrange everything from start to finish (transfers, accommodation, safari, car hire, internal flights, adventures, etc).

We only recommend places that we have personally visited and/or experienced. Very occasionally a traveller will request accommodation at a place that we don’t know. We are happy to include this but we can’t take responsibility for any of its shortcomings.

When planning a trip there are a few questions to consider:

Are you honeymooners?
Are you a family?
Are you a solo traveller?
What matters to you?
What activities and experiences might you like to build into your trip?
When do you want to travel?
Which areas are you most interested in?
How many people in your party (with an idea of ages)?
What is your budget?
What are your special interests?

This information is really helpful to us in getting a better picture of your desires and preferences when travelling.

Once we have your answers we will make suggestions for your consideration based on the information received from you.

Deposits

When you are happy with the ‘draft itinerary’ and want to go ahead and book we will send you a booking form which you will complete and return to us with a 10% deposit.  This deposit is normally held and not processed whilst we complete your reservations.  Should you proceed to book through The Traveller we will go ahead and check availability. At this stage we will require a deposit which we will pay to the venues on your behalf in order to hold your bookings. Should you book through The Traveller the original 10% deposit which we are holding will be deducted from your final payment. If you decide not to book with The Traveller the 10% deposit will not be refunded. We will confirm your bookings within a few days (or a bit longer if we are dealing with more remote areas of Africa). If we are unable to obtain availability at any of your choices we will discuss possible alternatives with you and adjust the quote accordingly.

In the very unlikely event that something has to change on your itinerary (e.g. if a hotel/lodge burns down, or a flight is cancelled), we will contact you to discuss alternative options before making alternative arrangements for you.

If you need to cancel this booking for any reason, the 10% deposit will be retained. It is then entirely up to the venues as to whether they will refund the deposit paid to them.

Balance of Payment

Balance of payment is usually due 8 weeks before your arrival. We will issue you with an invoice indicating the balance that is now due and at this stage the 10% which we are holding as a deposit will be deducted from the total due to finalise your reservations.

Your tickets, vouchers and a final itinerary with contact details and maps will normally be sent out six weeks before your holiday.

From our happy travellers –

The Gagnon family from Canada

Locals Know
It was so very reassuring to have the guidance of Lynne Katz as the local expert to plan our family trip to South Africa all the way from Canada.
She was pivotal in making some of the biggest decisions we needed to make. Where to stay, what safari, how long in each town, car rentals, airport transfers etc.
All items were organized clearly in a draft itinerary with prices. Payment was organized clearly and we just had to transfer a deposit and then final payment on a prearranged date.
All choices were really nice and we felt safe. Lynne even took time out of her own overseas holiday to make an emergency rebooking when our original safari lodge tragically burned down.

The car rental which Lynne arranged….everything was ready when we collected the vehicle on arrival at Cape Town International Airport ……..no problems as any queries Lynne sorted out!

Garden Route accommodation – very nice, quiet, clean comfortable rooms. A great sleep! Monkeys to welcome us for a morning coffee on our balcony overlooking golf course. Good hot breakfast.

Game Reserve – Fantastic accommodations, felt safe to leave our two teenage boys in the next cabin separate from us. Staff wonderful, friendly, helpful. Food absolutley yummy every day no fail. Ranger “Teacher” was great. We saw 4 of 5 big 5. Couldn’t find that leopard! Felt safe in their driving and trusted them with how close we got to animals. The park is doing a lot of tree clearing to rid the land of trees not native to South Africa. Did not affect our enjoyment whatsoever. Would totally go again.

Flights to Joburg – a delightful surprise to find that Lynne had sorted out our boarding passes and emailed them to us in good time so we could get through the airport swiftly.

Shuttle to guesthouse in Johannesburg (Derrick) – all prearranged by Lynne, we found our driver easily and he got us to the guest house and also back to airport.

Guesthouse B&B – located in Melville area we were happy to find it a safe and interesting artsy area. Good restaurants nearby.  Hosts were friendly and welcoming and helpful to guide us around. Staff top notch. Breakfast very good. Drinks available in main kitchen on an honorary system. Nice since they had a supply of wonderful red wine we could just grab and sit by pool and put it on our tab. We had a late flight and they let us stay longer to just relax since nobody was in our room that next night. Food wonderful everywhere this trip.
